Civil Law Scholars and Codifiers

Scholars who wrote or drafted the civilian codes that anchor the civil law tradition outside the common law world. Belongs here: Friedrich Carl von Savigny and Rudolf von Jhering as founders of the German historical and interest-based schools of civil law, Eugen Huber as principal drafter of the Swiss Civil Code, Louis Moreau-Lislet as a principal redactor of the Louisiana Civil Code, Ahmed Cevdet Pasha as the principal author of the Ottoman Mecelle, and Hozumi Nobushige as a principal drafter of the Civil Code of Japan. Does not belong here: an ancient Roman jurist whose work these scholars studied rather than a modern codifier, grouped under ancient and Roman law jurists instead.
