Mixed and Hybrid Legal Systems

Systems built from two or more legal traditions operating together within one jurisdiction, the standard comparative-law category for a system that cannot be assigned to a single family without misdescribing it. Belongs here: Mixed Systems as the general field, Louisiana Law and Quebec Law (civil code within a common law nation), Scots Law (a civilian substantive law inside a common law state), South African Law and Roman-Dutch Law (Roman-Dutch civil law layered under English common law procedure), Israeli Law (civil and common law elements alongside religious personal-status law) and Indian Legal System (a common law base with Hindu and Muslim personal law operating alongside it). Does not belong here: a system dominated by one tradition with only incidental foreign influence, which belongs under that dominant family instead.
