The English jurists whose treatises and rulings gave the common law its classical statement, before the tradition's modern American development. Belongs here: Sir Edward Coke, Sir William Blackstone as the common law's great systematizer, A. V. Dicey and his account of the rule of law, and the judges Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden and James Dalrymple, 1st Viscount Stair. Does not belong here: a twentieth century American constitutional judge, grouped under modern constitutional and supreme court judges instead.
