Courts whose defining jurisdiction is reviewing the constitutionality of law and government action, a specialized institution distinct from a general court of last resort in the civil law systems that developed it. Belongs here: Bundesverfassungsgericht, Conseil Constitutionnel, Constitutional Court of Korea and Constitutional Court of South Africa. Does not belong here: a common law supreme court that reviews constitutionality as one part of a broader ordinary appellate jurisdiction, such as the United States Supreme Court, grouped under supreme and highest courts of last resort instead.
