National Labor Relations Act

The National Labor Relations Act of 1935, commonly known as the Wagner Act, is a foundational statute of United States labor law enacted by the 74th United States Congress and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on July 5, 1935. It guarantees the right of private-sector employees to organize into trade unions, engage in collective bargaining, and take collective action such as strikes, and it created the National Labor Relations Board to enforce these rights. The act was substantially amended by the Labor Management Relations Act of 1947 (the Taft-Hartley Act) and the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959, and it remains in force, codified at 29 U.S.C. sections 151-169.
